Snohomish County Public Utility District is the second largest publicly-owned PUD in the Pacific Northwest, serving more than 315,000 electric customers in Snohomish County and Camano Island, Washington. Since the early 1980s, Snohomish PUD has aggressively promoted conservation among residential and business customers, resulting in cumulative energy savings of about 80 average megawatts by 2007 or enough to serve more than 50,000 homes. In January 2007, the Northwest Power Conservation Council rated Snohomish PUD among the leaders in conservation in the Northwest. The PUD operated 15 separate conservation programs in 2007, with several more under development for 2008.
