Montana Industries Work Together to Accelerate Energy Efficiency Knowledge and Savings

Collaboration between Montana organizations, NorthWestern Energy and NEEA helps drive energy-efficient programs and strategic energy management in the region

Helena, Mont. – Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) and NorthWestern Energy today celebrated Montana organizations that are leading the way in managing energy efficiency across Montana. These companies are part of the Western Montana Strategic Energy Management Cohort – a group of Montana organizations that shared both their experiences launching energy-saving programs and their vision of a more competitive Montana business community.

Participating organizations included City of Helena, Barrick Golden Sunlight Mines Inc., Graymont Western U.S. Inc. Indian Creek Plant, Simms Fishing Products, and West Paw Design.

“We salute these Montana organizations and their employees who are committed to helping their organizations improve energy performance and stay competitive,” said Bob Rowe, CEO, NorthWestern Energy. “The collaborative nature of the program and the partnership between NorthWestern Energy and NEEA sets the stage for future activities and fosters an energy management vision for Montana businesses and the region.”

Representatives from each organization championed energy management goals and regularly shared results. NorthWestern Energy and NEEA provided training, support and the strategic energy management (SEM) plan. Representatives met at various locations in Helena and Bozeman, attended webinars and energy team meetings and shared their experiences and progress throughout the nine-month program.

“The cohort model was successful for our company because it gave our team the tools and training in a real-world setting to find where energy and cost savings could be accomplished,” said Stacey Scott, West Paw Design. “Collaborating with our peers who shared the same energy goals and the collaborative support from NorthWestern Energy and NEEA was crucial to help us establish an energy management plan and set goals for future work.”

“Today’s meeting illustrates the hard work of Montana’s energy champions and their commitment to help their organizations save energy while helping Montana and the Northwest achieve a more sustainable future,” said John Wallner, NEEA’s senior SEM expert. “By seeding collaboration across industries, we’re creating a unique opportunity for Northwest manufacturers to achieve and maintain a competitive advantage in today’s global marketplace.”
