March 7, 2023 - Firm Engagement in Energy Efficient Integrated Design: Presented by Chris Meek, Director Integrated Design Lab and Heather Burpee, Director, Education and Outreach
The University of Washington (UW) Integrated Design Lab (IDL) partners with design teams and owners to provide technical capabilities in energy efficiency, using advanced energy simulation and analysis to help address clients’ needs. This session shared several projects that the UW IDL engaged in that resulted in new tools and innovative, energy efficient, outcomes including: 1) Advanced capabilities for innovative and integrated energy efficient design analysis – UW IDL and Seattle Housing Authority collaborated to develop a tool for estimating energy savings opportunities in their existing affordable housing stock; 2) Professional engagement for integrated design in new and existing buildings – shared several collaborative projects that resulted in deep energy savings, and innovative design solutions, and; 3) Measuring and tracking the energy efficiency of the Puget Sound region design community’s most aspirational work through the AIA’s Energy in Design Award.
