Condensing Rooftop Unit Field Study: Baseline and Final Report – 2018/2019 Heating Season

Condensing rooftop units (C-RTUs) have been identified as an efficient natural gas technology with energy savings potential in Northwest commercial buildings. C-RTUs face several challenges in becoming a widespread technology, including higher upfront cost, added complexity managing condensate, contractor unfamiliarity with the technology, and limited manufacturer offerings.

To better understand these challenges and to evaluate field performance, user acceptance, reliability, and energy savings in the Northwest, the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) hired Energy 350 to install and monitor four custom C-RTUs. This report summarizes the field study results and findings from those four units over the 2018/2019 heating season.
