As part of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance’s (NEEA) Long-Term Monitoring and Tracking (LTMT) of the Drive Power Initiative (DPI), which actively promoted green motor rewinds from 1999 to 2004, NEEA contracted with the Cadmus Group to present this latest report of the 2020 findings for the DPI. For this ninth LTMT report, Cadmus collected a range of data to meet three major objectives: (1) update the size of the motor rewind market in the Northwest; (2) establish the market share of green motor rewinds; and (3) calculate the regional savings for green motor rewinds. The study found that 17% of the 1,836 motor rewinds conducted by Northwest motor service centers were green motor rewinds. Regional savings from green motor rewinds decreased 29% from 2019 to 2020, continuing a trend that has seen savings decrease 54% since 2013. However, this year’s decrease was particularly marked, likely reflecting the additional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
