In 2019, the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) contracted with ILLUME Advising to examine the successes and challenges of the tankless gas water heater market in the Northwest. The study was conducted in two phases; Phase 1 occurred in early 2019 and focused on an extensive secondary literature review, while Phase 2 began in late summer of 2019 and involved several in depth phone and in-person interviews with distributors and installers.
The research provides insights about how market actors impact and work with new technologies. Findings will help NEEA to better position and design more effective interventions in the marketplace with future water heater programs.
