Luminaire Level Lighting Controls - Market Progress Evaluation Report #1

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) contracted with Cadmus Group to conduct the first Market Progress Evaluation Report for the alliance’s Luminaire Level Lighting Controls (LLLC) Market Transformation program. The study focused on conducting first-year tracking of market progress indicators but encompassed other research objectives as well.

Surveys of installation and design/specification companies and interviews with end-use customers found that NEEA’s efforts are contributing to high levels of LLLC awareness and growing market uptake, although barriers remain. Key findings include:

  • Nearly 80% of Northwest installation companies and 70% of design/specification companies are aware of LLLC. A majority of installation companies have installed at least one LLLC system.
  • Perceived complexity, higher first cost compared to other types of controls, and lack of interoperability among different manufacturers’ LLLC products remain barriers.
  • The study recommends continued training of supply-chain market actors, especially on the LLLC value proposition and best applications.
