The construction of high performance or “advanced” walls represents a significant energy efficiency opportunity for the regional new home construction sector. This report provides information about moisture management, benefits of the wall systems, construction best practices, and code compliance resources. It documents the detailed process, components, and estimated costs of three highly energy efficient wall system archetypes:
- Thermal Break Shear Wall (TBS);
- 2x6 Intermediate frame with exterior rigid insulation;
- 2x4 double stud with blown-in fibrous insulation
This is the second of two reports that NEEA commissioned Earth Advantage Inc. to produce. The first report defines the walls and market barriers. This second report provides information needed to address the barriers and provides code officials and training organizations with information they need to more actively support use of these wall types.
