The High-Performance HVAC program is working to accelerate adoption of very high efficiency dedicated outside air systems (DOAS) in commercial buildings across the Northwest. These systems separate heating and cooling from ventilation, which allows each component to operate more efficiently. The result is lower energy use and improved indoor air quality compared to conventional HVAC systems.
The program is partnering with manufacturers, designers, and contractors to raise awareness of the benefits of DOAS, provide training, and influence design practices. It is also working to integrate these systems into energy codes and explore opportunities to expand the approach to other technologies, such as hydronic systems and high-efficiency natural gas options.
If successful, these efforts will make very high efficiency DOAS the standard for commercial HVAC, reducing energy waste, lowering operating costs, and creating healthier, more comfortable buildings.
