Formerly called High-Performance HVAC, the Advanced Performance Dedicated Outside Air Systems (DOAS) program is working to accelerate adoption of high efficiency HVAC equipment in commercial buildings across the Northwest. Advanced performance DOAS systems separate heating and cooling from ventilation, which allows each component to operate more efficiently. The result is lower energy use and improved indoor air quality compared to conventional HVAC systems.

The program is partnering with manufacturers, designers, and contractors to raise awareness of the benefits of advanced performance DOAS, provide training, and influence design practices. It is also working to integrate these systems into energy codes and explore opportunities to expand the approach to other technologies, such as hydronic systems and high-efficiency natural gas options.

If successful, these efforts will make advanced performance DOAS the standard for commercial HVAC, reducing energy waste, lowering operating costs, and creating healthier, more comfortable buildings.
