Evaluation of Sensor Technology for Street Lighting

The primary goal of this study was to evaluate the detection performance and spatial coverage characteristics of outdoor occupancy sensors used in street and area lighting applications under controlled outdoor test conditions. The research characterized how different sensing technologies responded to different road-user types, movement relative to the sensor, ambient temperatures, and mounting heights. Understanding these relationships can support evidence-based guidance for sensor selection, placement, and integration into roadway lighting systems.
