June 14, 2022 - This session provides quantitative data to understand the impacts of placing heat pump water heaters (HPWH) in small-volume rooms. Key questions discussed during this session included 1) At what volume does room size lower efficiency, 2) How much does limited volume lower efficiency? 3) How do the above change under different (larger) draw patterns? and 4) At what size room, or position within a room, does the exhaust air recirculate to the air intake?
The presentation also examines data regarding the effectiveness of common amelioration methods and explores new methods, such as: passive venting; louvered doors; different size grilles (net free area); different grille vertical position on wall; and finally, it takes a look at exhaust ducting and "best-case" vs. "worst-case" airflow.
