NEEA Q2 2021 Codes, Standards and New Construction Newsletter

The summer seems to be flying by and the sun and blue skies have many of us outside and enjoying all that the Northwest has to offer. The spring quarter saw a lot of regional and national codes and standards activities. A few highlights from Q2 2021 are listed below.

• 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)—The code development process kicked off last quarter with the formulation of the residential and commercial committees. Two NEEA staff were selected as members of these committees, one on each committee.
• 2021 Washington State Energy Code — Commercial (WSEC-C) code  proposal process closed in Q2 2021 and proposals were submitted to Washington’s State Building Code Council (SBCC) in June 2021. NEEA collaborators submitted nearly 65 proposals with suggestions to help the state meet its latest energy and carbon goals.

• The U.S. Department of Energy (U.S. DOE) initiated the federal rulemaking process for a manufactured housing standard by publishing a notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS), in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), to analyze the potential environmental impacts associated with establishing energy conservation standards for manufactured housing. Public scoping meetings took place in July 2021.
