Q4 2022 Emerging Technology Newsletter

Q4 2022 closed out an exciting year for NEEA’s Emerging Technology work and helped set up for continued success in 2023. The alliance’s work in 2022 resulted in several major ENERGY STAR® specifications, including Televisions; Residential Windows, Doors, and Skylights; Central Air Conditioner and Air Source Heat Pumps, and Gas and Electric Water Heaters, all of which will benefit the region.

The following are some key accomplishments and activities in Q4 2022:

• The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) released its AHRI 1430 standard for demand flexible electric storage water heaters integrating ANSI/CTA-2045B communication protocols, for which the alliance participated in the development.

• ENERGY STAR v7 for Residential Windows, Doors & Skylights was released in October 2022 and will result in greater availability and installation of higher-efficiency windows, doors and skylights throughout the territory. You can read more about NEEA’s window efficiency efforts in the Building Envelope section below.

• Additional field work occurred with VHE DOAS systems to continue to enhance the approach in different building types.

• Several residential speed heat pump projects progressed in Q4 2022, including work that will increase the adoption of heat pump systems in manufactured homes, as well as NEEA’s ongoing work to enhance the performance of variable speed heat pumps.

The Emerging Tech team is excited about the upcoming work in 2023. Please reach out with any questions or suggestions on NEEA’s emerging technology work. We’d love to hear from you.
