Natural Gas Market Transformation

Accelerating efficiency in natural gas

Improving energy efficiency for Northwest end users served by multiple fuels will result in significant benefits to our economy and energy availability.

Northwest gas utilities are working collectively on a strategy for initiating natural gas market transformation in the Northwest based on a shared business plan. Specific natural gas initiatives and programs will include:

  • Gas-Fired Heat Pump Water Heaters
  • Combination Space and Water Heating Systems
  • Hearth Products
  • Rooftop HVAC
  • ENERGY STAR Dryers

Other activities include product scanning and ongoing research and evaluation, as well as work to influence codes and standards as part of its natural gas portfolio.

This is the first regional effort to drive natural gas market transformation in the country.  Participants include Avista Utilities, Cascade Natural Gas Corporation, Energy Trust of Oregon, NW Natural and Puget Sound Energy.

This initial work will build experience working in natural gas markets and drive towards a fully integrated approach to market transformation for the long term benefit of the region.
